Showing Demonstrated Interest

8/9/2018

Some schools want you to show demonstrated interest -- essentially proof that you are interested in their college and not just applying randomly.

There are lots of ways to do this. For instance, Tulane University is coming to Bellevue on Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00 pm. Attending this presentation will help to show Tulane that you are serious about their school:  Tulane Event

Keep an eye out for upcoming presentations by the schools that you are planning to apply to. Other ways to show demonstrated interest include:

  • Attending college presentations at your high school
  • Signing up for emails from each college on your list
  • Opening and clicking on links in the emails that those colleges send (schools can track this!)
  • Emailing your local admissions rep directly when you have questions
  • Doing an interview with the college -- these can be on campus, remote via Skype or local with either an admissions rep or an alum
  • Including school specific knowledge in your “Why College X” essays
  • Connecting with the school via social media
  • Visiting the campus
  • Submitting your applications early -- this one can be confusing -- you can apply Early Decision or Early Action, but even if you are applying for Regular Decision it can help to get your application in early. At some schools you need to submit your application before you can get an interview, so you want to prioritize those applications.
