STRESS

The college admissions process can be stressful, we all know that! And one of the best ways to reduce stress is to exercise. I don't know about you, but I find it hard to motivate myself to go to the gym. Luckily, I found Remix Workouts, run by a local woman, France (pronounced Frahnz) Marien. She offers strength training and cardio in a fun (really!) group environment. And, online apps! I love to go to France's classes - while I may not be as thin as I was at 22,  I am definitely much stronger! In fact, I'm stronger now than I have ever been. I highly recommend it!!!

Hi everyone,

I hope the summer is treating you well. As always, here in Seattle it flies by much too quickly. But from a college admissions perspective there are several things that students want to be thinking about this summer, besides soaking up the sun.

SAT/ACT

If you are a rising senior or a rising junior, summer is a great time to work on SAT and/or ACT prep. Which test should you do? Some students do dramatically better on one test over the other. But the only way to know for sure is to do a mock test for each. Luckily there are tutoring companies that will offer you the opportunity to take a mock test, under test conditions. These scores do not get reported to the schools, so there is no risk. it is a simply a chance to do a practice test and find out where you should focus your studies so you can do as well as possible on the real thing. And it is a great way to decide which test is better for you.

Applerouth Tutoring has a free mock ACT scheduled for Saturday, August 16, and a free mock SAT scheduled for Saturday, August 23. Here is the link to the sign up page: https://www.applerouth.com/calendar/mock-tests/

Who should take one or both of these tests? Rising seniors who want to take a practice test before taking their final SAT or ACT this fall. Rising juniors who want to figure out which test is better for them. And, rising juniors who are very good test takers, who want to prep for the October PSAT, which is the test that determines National Merit Scholars.

COLLEGES THAT CHANGE LIVES FAIR

This coming Saturday, July 26, is the Colleges That Change Lives Fair. This is a group of over 40 colleges that travel together over the summer to spread the word about their schools. There are a number of terrific schools that will be here and if you get a chance, it is well worth attending. It starts at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle.  A tip for seniors who might already have some of these schools on your lists - this can be a great time to schedule an interview with the admissions rep. Some of them will be conducting individual interviews before or after the college fair.

I hope to see you there!
